It's time to get up close with Wagner

Those of you who watched our final Coffee Break Concert, featuring Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder, will know that we're planning to produce a new English version of The Flying Dutchman in 2022. We are extremely excited about staging our first Wagner opera, and about the fantastic team we've assembled for this production, with composer Laura Bowler, librettist Glyn Maxwell and director Lucy Bradley.

We'll be turning our increased familiarity with digital platforms to good use to give you unique access to the development of the production, from the earliest stages of the creative and planning process. Over the next 18 months, we'll continue to invite you to share in the development of the production with us online and - hopefully - live and in person as well.

We would love you to join us on Thursday 5 November (6.30pm) for the first online event of this series, where we'll be in conversation with composer Laura Bowler about how and why Wagner's opera might lend itself to a chamber-sized re-imagining, with mezzo-soprano and Artistic Associate Flora McIntosh and pianist Kelvin Lim joining us to illustrate and demonstrate elements of Wagner's music.

During a time when we can't perform for you live, this is a really exciting opportunity to get even closer to our work.

Tickets are free but must be booked in advance by clicking here.
